DIY PAPER CHRISTMAS LANTERN WITH A CRICUT

Make a cute mini paper lantern winter scene with a Cricut machine!

Paper Lantern Christmas Winter Scene DIY With Cricut

I may be a little biased, since I grew up as an expat kid in Germany, but I think Germans have some of the best Christmas decorations and celebrations (hello Christmas markets!) I’ve always been partial to decor that lights up at night, and I love the German window scenes which are little cut out silhouettes similar to this lantern. I designed this lantern with those scenes in mind.

I got the little snow globe ornament from Target. I have linked a similar snowglobe from Amazon in the supplies list but it’s a little bit larger, so you’ll need to enlarge the lantern pieces in Design Space.

You can watch a short video of me assembling on Instagram HERE. (And give me a follow while you are there for more fun craft ideas!)

Cricut Machine
White Cardstock
LightGrip Mat
Battery-operated Tea Light
Craft Tape Glue
Foam Dots (optional)
Snowglobe ornament or
a wooden base (approximately 2.5 inches across)

Instructions:

Cricut Machine Cutting out Cardstock for Paper Lantern

Open the Design Space link HERE.  If you are using a different ornament, measure your base and then resize accordingly.

Click on Make It. Select Cardstock for Intricate Cuts.

Tip: Make sure you have a really good blade in your machine and your mat is nice and sticky. Both these things will help insure you get nice accurate cuts since this is a TINY design.

After you are done cutting the cardstock, carefully remove it from the mat by flipping the mat over and pulling the mat back. This will prevent the cardstock from curling.

Now it’s time to glue the pieces together.  Apply the craft tape on end of each piece.

The shortest piece is the center which gets glued around the tea light.

The next piece is the next longest. You can also use foam dots here if you would like to keep the pieces separated. Lastly, you’ll glue the longest piece and place it around the other two.

Placing paper lantern on base piece

Set the tea light and all the paper pieces on the base piece and then put the dome lid over it. Now you have a cute little paper lantern winter scene!
